Unlike the Fat Personal Trainer

Being obedient isn’t convenient, but being worthy is always worth it.
Man, I must say… I’m the bomb at making up catchy phrases. Favorite Sins When we want blessings, we have to give up what we LIKE to do for what we NEED to do; but we NEVER encounter the strength and power to change if our desires are sought after with our OWN strength. We have to confide in the Lord, humble ourselves, and realize that we have to depend on Him in all we do. We have an eternigator who has been going to church with his wife for 16 years and hasn’t yet felt the need to be baptized. How on earth? He doesn’t drink; he doesn’t smoke; he lives an honest life. But, for so many years, he has missed out on blessings because he hasn’t made goals or promises with God. He knows that coffee isn’t good for his health, especially because he has gastritis; but he has lived his WHOLE life with coffee. He admitted that he wants to stop, but what he’s lacking is the doctrine behind it all. For 16 years, he has been going to a spiritual gym, 3 hours a week, and doesn’t lift a pinky. He likes going; he likes the company; he feels enriched by the people who are sweating around him, encouraging him to live a healthy spiritual life. He enjoys the motivation, but he hasn’t done anything with it. He has never enjoyed the fruits of faith and EXERCISED. He feels no need to be baptized because he never has been, and… he’s getting old. “Osório, why is getting baptized important?” “So we can live with God.” “Do you want to live with God?” “Of course.” “Then, you have to be clean spiritually and physically, and that means having no addictions. Will you stop drinking coffee?” He hemmed and hawed and said that he didn’t drink any yet that day. GREAT! They didn’t even have any in the house because they were out. Even BETTER! “But I’ve been drinking coffee for as long as I can remember. What will I drink instead of coffee?” The lesson was going around in circles. I then straight-up said, “Osório, your problem isn’t coffee. It’s faith.” He looked a little surprised. “Do you have faith that God can do anything He wants?” “Yeeeees...” “Then, He can help you or ANYONE with your addiction to coffee, but you have to ASK for help and WANT to stop drinking. James 2: Faith without works is dead. Have you prayed to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet?” “...............no. No, I haven’t.” “That’s why it has been so hard to stop because you don’t know that the Word of Wisdom was a commandment given from God to His prophet, Joseph Smith. Do you have faith that God talks to His prophets face to face and reveals the things we need to hear?” “Well, yes I do.” “Then, you are not exercising your faith to know and OBEY the commandment.” John 7:17 According to my advice, I have cut my “favorite sins;” so I’m not acting like the fat personal trainer who knows how to maintain a healthy spiritual body but only teaches it and does not live it. That’s why I will be sending my pictures from now on through email. Love, Sister Nelson |

POSTCARD FROM SISTER NELSON
14 January 2013
To: Dad & Mom Nelson
Training and being a senior over 7 cities in a nutshell:
DON’T QUIT
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to laugh, but you have to cry,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit!
Life is odd with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns.
Many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow.
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are.
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit--
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
P.S. Thank Mary Felshaw for the letters! & $20!
