An Up and Down Spring

I’M BEING TRANSFERRED! I’m going to go to Macaé, Cabo Frio, with Sister Diller. I’m replacing Sister Taylor, so I bet the members will get me confused with her. The assistant elder always got us mixed up.

SISTER SONEGHET WILL TRAIN!!!!!!! SAME WITH SISTER CÉSPEDES! Oh, my Boliviana. And, OH holy cow, I feel like I was SO lucky to have Sister Sone, even if it only was for one transfer. She’s really
stressed out with the idea of training but said she was VERY thankful that she “broke the senior barrier” with me as the junior. Sister Diller and Sister Taylor stayed the night Tuesday night because Sister Diller had to update her visa. It was late by the time they left, AND it was raining like the world would end. (I’ve learned not to pray for rain... I love it and all, but sometimes it doesn’t alleviate the HEAT. So, instead of feeling refreshed, you just feel like Pig-Pen on Charlie Brown.)

Tuesday [September 25] was District Meeting, and it finished a little late because the ZLs were there.
Also,
it was a half party because Sister Teles is going home TOMORROW! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! * * * * By the time we got out, we were already late to our appointment |
with Alda. (She’s the sweetheart we met the day we marked to visit the less-actives and “knocked” on her door instead... I don’t remember if I talked about her. Sister Soneghet did her Jedi tricks for our first lesson, and Alda cried and told us all about her life and dreams. She has agreed to get baptized next Sunday. Boooo that I won’t be there because I’ll be transferred to Cabo Frio by then. She’s such a sweetheart.) So, we decided to... negar... uh, forget about the dark looming clouds and go straight there.
BOTH of us forgot our umbrellas, hahahaha. Sister Sone said, “This is why I always have strong companions.” Heck NO would I complain about walking in the rain. At the end of the day, we marked a meeting with our LMA [Ward Mission Leader]. On our way there, we had to cross a street that splits into 3 streets... and it was raining... and we were dodging cars... and I was holding my glasses because they weren’t helping, being drenched on my face. There was a sewer lid that was cemented in crooked, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I
sprained my right ankle… on BOTH sides. Go big or go home, right? Sister Sone didn’t even notice, so I sat right where I fell—halfway in the street—and yelled at her, hahaha. Man, I’ve never felt so much discomfort trying to walk; and I thought, “Sheesh, I must have bruised and sprained and twisted and who knows what.”

pack on it. After 15 minutes, I tried to roll it over and see from my vantage point, which was when I noticed more pain on the inside heel and color, too. However, there wasn’t much swelling—actually hardly at all—and if Sister Nelson knows anything about sprains, it’s the first 24 hours that you see just how much your ankle will grow... but nothing... much. I asked for a priesthood blessing the minute I walked in, and all has been healing very quickly. The miracles of a mission.
We went the next day to see if anything was broken but nothing was, thankfully. I was stuck in the house until Saturday because everyone already has had problems from not taking care of foot, knee, and leg problems and had to stay LONGER in the house because of it. So, I was commanded to stay in the house. President Lima and his wife personally came (Good heavens, it was a fright to get the apartment “spick and span.”) with instructions from Sister Noteware. President came with a BOOT, haaaaahahaha, really? Yes, the kind of boot you use after surgery or to protect a cast. So, okay President, you’re the man; I used the boot for 2 days, and
I felt like Frankenstein. |
Meanwhile, Sister Sone went on exchanges with the sisters; and we even got someone to stay in the apartment with me while she went out to teach our awesome families and Alda. It was frustrating; but, thankfully, Sister Sone already knew what it was like to be stuck in the house, haha. She was an angel and thanked me for being
obedient.
In fact, she credited our success for placing a date with Alda and the progress of our families to me being obedient and staying in the house as instructed. I even got to help prepare the doces [candies/sweets] |
for the marriage of the “eternigator” Sister Teles and Sister Cespedes have! So, all in all…
I really think that by having Sister Soneghet and Sister Diller... the President is prepping me to train as soon as possible. After this transfer I have with Sister Diller, I’m going to “kill” her. [Don’t worry! That’s mission lingo for sending her home because she has finished.] Then, I’ll probably be senior companion right afterward. Cabo Frio is in charge of like 7 cities! The house is fit for 2 more sets of sisters, and there’s a HAMMOCK! Heeeeah, I’m thinking like I’m gonna 1-up Dad's mission beach house experience. I have yet to have the nickname of “Straight Arrow,” but I’m getting there. Actually, they call a curling iron here a Babylise, no lie; so the sisters call me that, hehe. I’m going to put it all out there on the line and make as many mistakes as I can, so as to learn while I’m a junior, haha.

I have realized that my emails have been really just inventory of my week; but I think from now on, I’ll have a scripture of the week. This week is 1 Corinthians 4:20. The power of the kingdom of God is found in its POWER to change lives not in the WORDS the gospel is shared. Thank goodness, hahah ;)
SISTER DICKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could, I’d give you a hug. *HUG!* |
P.S. Mom, Sister Sone is going to the mission office today because she’s training, so we’ll see if your care package is there. *Fingers crossed.*
[Follow-up from last week's email, September 24.]
“Gil said that if we can give a really good lesson tonight for family night and she accepts to get married, he will stop everything and propose to her RIGHT THERE. We’re super stoked. FAMILYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!” It happened that night! Gil proposed, and SHE SAID YES! A mission is SO WORTH IT! |
