I Found My Smile!

I’m in the city of Anil, and the stake of Jacarepaguá. (I love saying that!) Boy, it’s exactly what I need!

#1 FUN because she “killed” [meaning... she was the final companion to a sister missionary who had completed her mission and was going home] Sister Rodrigues, so they got to go to Cristo Redentor, etc.; and #2 HARD because she gets sick really easily, and the last transfer she got bitten by a bug she’s allergic to... where you get really puffy and your skin practically falls off. No joke. |
Our area is way different from Santa Margarida, Campo Sujo [dirty]—I mean—Campo Grande, haha. There are no people just sitting outside of their houses like there were in Santa Margarida. Here is more of the real city feel, busy people walking by of whom we have to chase down and give them an invitation flier to go to church. It’s less personal, unfortunately. However, I have learned that the flier can really just be an ice breaker, and you can walk with them; so HAHA! Try to get away from me NOW! It’s great! Annnd, there’s a FOREST in the middle of the city! We’re going to take a trip through there one of these p-days. I can’t believe I didn’t take many pictures of our “new” home with neighbors who raise chickens illegally.
I’m gonna miss that place, hahaha! |

Try this link to learn about the projects underway in preparation for the Olympics... even in Anil.

I LOVE IT HERE!!! Really, there were some days that were hard for me to email because I didn’t know what to say. Santa Margarida was a psychological FIGHT, a level that I’ve never felt before. I feel bad for Sister DeO because she has another American companion, who is relatively new. But I think Sister Gordon will be able to help her know what to do and how to study. Those are things that are difficult to understand when you weren’t trained really well and then immediately asked to BE a trainer. Plus, Santa Margarida was her first area; and she has been there for 7 months now.
Sister Soneghet is awesome!
We’re pretty similar: we love the outdoors (she runs, surfs, swims); we’re not really touchy people; and we aren’t really sarcastic or make fun of people a lot. She speaks English pretty well, and we have a jolly ol’ time practicing our languages with each other. We live with 2 other sisters. One is from Bolivia, and the other will go |
We didn’t actually get to teach a first discussion until Saturday because we literally had to start over. The investigators of Sister Sone and Sister Rodrigues weren’t progressing, so we cut them all except for one. We’ve been working really hard with less actives, but they’re usually not at home. This week was a lot of walking and street contacting. Poor Sister Sonesone was a bit starstruck from her transfer of responsibility from being a junior companion to senior companion.
From now on, I think I will label the following types of news flashes as “The Funnies.”
A guy contacted US on the street the other day and said he PERSONALLY knew Joseph Smith. He asked me if I personally knew him... I said no because he lived 200 years ago; but then he asked Sister Soneghet something else, so he didn’t hear my answer. Conclusion: they have crazies here in the city, too, eh?

And now for the category called “Nature.”
So, there’s a river-like waterway here. Apparently, it used to look indigo, thus the name of the city Anil. But now it just looks more blackish brown. The mosquitoes that infest the water initially made it look like it was raining just over the river. However, I now change my answer to SPARKLES. Yeah, that makes it sound much more majestic. “And they made it sparkle-y!” “With magiiiic.” Oh, there are snowy egrets here that try to live off of the river... I’m not so sure how they’re alive.
Love you!
Sister Nelson
P.S. Sister Sonesone loves Kid History!!! SCORE!
P.P.S. I FOUND MY SMILEEEEE!!!! Apparently, I left it at the airport when I arrived, and it has been trying to make its way to Santa Margarida but got tired and waited for me here. I am sooooo blessed!
